A jazz guitarist and NYU Jazz Performance student who’s spent over ten years directing the Army National Guard’s rock & commercial ensemble. I blend solid theory with real-world experience to help you discover your own voice on the guitar.
Meet Drew Gansz
Drew is a seasoned guitarist, educator, and Army National Guard veteran currently pursuing a Jazz Performance degree at NYU. As a Musical Director of the Guard’s rock & commercial ensemble for over a decade, he’s led and performed everything from big-band jazz to funk-infused rock sets.
His journey began at age eight, when a simple suggestion from his Dad set him on a lifelong musical path. By nine, he was onstage; before he hit his teens, he was sharing bills with veteran blues, funk, jazz, and R&B players in Rochester, NY. After honing his craft in his early twenties, Drew moved to New York City to immerse himself in the world’s most vibrant music scene and refine his voice under the tutelage of the city’s top jazz luminaries.
Drawing on ten years of military-band leadership and NYU’s rigorous jazz curriculum, Drew’s teaching blends rock-and-roll drive with deep theory: harmony, ear training, transcription, and improvisation. He tailors each lesson, whether one-on-one in SoHo or online, to help students unlock the confidence and technique to learn any song in any style.
